Yoga for Explosive Strength

Today, I'm going to perform yoga poses and use body strength instead of lifting weights.

I searched for a series of poses to use, and I came across this article (here) and video (here) on Men's Health titled Yoga for Explosive Strength. This series of poses will open up the hips and stretch the hamstrings and calves and everything else that needs to unwind.

One thing I know about yoga is that there is no other way to sweat more while standing still. Try it.

I'll report back.

Runner's lunge, crescent, pigeon, plan, downward dog, butterfly.

Learning the Ropes

Spring. Time to get back into the exercise groove.

Over the cold months, it was hard to get motivated to get out into the garage and lift, run, jump, squat, and push. Instead of shocking my body, I made reentry easy and tackled two things at once -- I weeded and dug up rocks in the yard. And dug up more rocks in the yard. And pulled roots. To me, yard work is great total body conditioning.

But it's time to get into the gym, and as always, I want to see results fast.

An article in The Wall Street Journal reminded me that jumping rope is super for all over conditioning. It's easy, requires just two things really -- a rope and shoes. The article, Learning the Ropes, can be found here. For a video of the basics, YouTube offers the following video instruction:
